Online play in Ontario, explained

Checked October 8, 2026

By the Minimums Desk

Online casinos in Ontario have their own rules: iGaming Ontario conducts and manages the market, and the AGCO regulates it. This page explains how the regulated online market works and says nothing about table minimums.

How the market works

Ontario's regulated online gambling market opened on April 4, 2022. iGaming Ontario conducts and manages it. The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, known as the AGCO, regulates it. Running the market and regulating it are separate jobs, held by separate bodies.

A private online casino is legal in Ontario only when it meets two conditions. The first is registration with the AGCO. The second is an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario. Both must be in place.

Two rules apply to the person playing. Online play is for people 19 or older, which is also the legal age for casinos in Ontario. Bets can be placed only while the person is physically in Ontario. The test is location at the moment of the bet, not a home address.

Checking a site

iGaming Ontario publishes the list of regulated sites at igamingontario.ca. That list is the place to check whether a private online casino is regulated in Ontario. A site's presence on the list is what counts, not what the site says about itself. Each time a new site comes up, the same list applies.

OLG.ca is the online casino of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, the provincial agency. It is run by the province, not by a private company.

Limits and stopping

BetGuard, at betguard.ca, has been run by iGaming Ontario since May 14, 2026. It lets a person exclude themselves from all regulated Ontario online gambling sites, including OLG.ca. Terms are 6 months, 1 year, 5 years or a custom term. BetGuard does not cover land-based casinos.

For casinos, OLG's My PlayBreak offers self-exclusion for 3 or 6 months or 1 to 5 years. A casino break bars entry to any Ontario casino, and the term cannot be cancelled early. Enrolment is through the OLG Support Centre at 1-800-387-0098, staff on site, or a PlaySmart Centre. ConnexOntario offers free, confidential help 24/7: call 1-866-531-2600, text CONNEX to 247247, or chat at connexontario.ca.

Paid links on this site

Paid links on this site appear only on the home page, and each one is marked Ad. There are three: one in the menu, one just below the first screen and one near the end of the page. All lead to the same online casino partner. The site earns a commission, and the partner can change. Those links are for Ontario only: players must be physically located in Ontario.

No paid link appears on this page. Casinos, OLG, the province and help services never pay Low Limits.
